Review - Hernan Cattaneo - The Masters Series
"Hernan begins in classic prog fashion, warming us up with some brooding, slightly dark and melancholic tunes, and a distinctive sound set that harks back to the original progressive sound. This is buttery smooth progressive made the way nature intended; a measured and even build with tracks that just melt into one another. The track selection balances simplicity with engagement and intrigue while the rhythmic percussion floats in a delay-induced bounce amidst washy pads and sweeps, just swirling about.
Gentle hypnotics and flowing subtle melodies ride along a creeping tension that builds throughout. As we are guided along, things edge toward techier sounds. Bigger synths start to unfurl and as the energy builds you can feel the drive toward peak-time regions as Hernan starts to pull out bigger synths, spacey pads, and more haunting verbed-up piano riffs, ending the first half with some pretty melodic prog.
Disc 2 nearly picks up where the first left off; it?s atmospheric, melodic, and moody. Hernan brings things back up a bit and maintains an elevated energy using a lot of melodic peak progressive. Both discs extend well beyond the 60 min mark, allowing for plenty of excellent tracks with several exclusive productions coming from Cattaneo himself. Together both discs form this virtually continuous progression that seems to peak somewhere halfway through the second disc before Hernan tapers it off, bringing us down a pinch with some Guy J and Henry Saiz, for an upbeat coda.
Hernan?s vision on this really epitomizes many of the fundamental values we think of when we talk about progressive house ? he has become a true master of his art. A must have for the true prog fan."
